IUD Removal

An IUD can be removed very easily and at any time. At Echo Amsterdam, this is always done by an experienced midwife. To do this, she inserts a speculum into the vagina and pulls the wires attached to the IUD. In most cases, the IUD comes out easily.

Keep in mind that any intercourse that takes place in the week before the IUD is removed can still lead to a pregnancy. If you want to remove the IUD but do not want to have children, it is very important that you do not have unprotected sex the week before the removal. If you want to have the IUD replaced by the midwife during one and the same consultation with a subsequent IUD, there is no chance of pregnancy and you do not need to take any special precautions.

If you want to have the IUD removed within three months after placement, this will not be reimbursed by your (Dutch) health insurency and you will have to pay for this removal yourself. This will cost 30 euros.
