Gynaecological scan

We also provide gynaecological ultrasounds.

A gynaecological ultrasound can be requested by your general practitioner if you experience:

  • Pain in the lower abdomen
  • Disorders of the menstrual cycle such as bleeding between periods, no menstrual bleeding or increase in bleeding during a period

Other reasons for a gynaecological ultrasound:

  • IUD check-up
  • Follicular tracking ultrasound or various ultrasounds as part of a fertility treatment

To book this scan in, please call our practice at number 020-6166990.

What can you expect?

Our ultrasound technician will use a small elongated ultrasound probe to assess the uterus, ovaries and lower abdomen internally.
For optimal imaging during the ultrasound examination, your bladder should be empty. If necessary, you can use the toilet in the examination room. In general, an internal ultrasound examination is not painful.

Our ultrasound technician will put you at ease before she starts the examination and she will always explain what she is doing and tell you what she is seeing.

After the examination we will either give a letter with the results to you or send it to your general practitioner.

Your general practitioner will discuss the results of the examination with you and decide whether a follow-up examination is necessary.

Only experienced, female ultrasound technicians work at Echo Amsterdam. We do not have any doctors in training or interns.

Please note: You need to pay for this examination (75 euros, 85 in evenings and week-ends) yourself; no tariff has (yet) been defined by the insurance companies. If you wish, we can issue an invoice and you can try to submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement.
